1 But Jesus went to your Mount of Olives.
2 At dawn he appeared once more inside the temple courts, in which all the men and women gathered around him, and he sat
lower to teach them.
three The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought within a girl caught in adultery. They made her
stand prior to the group
4 and mentioned to Jesus, “Teacher, this girl was caught inside the act of adultery.
5 Inside Law Moses commanded us to stone such women of all ages. Now what do you say?”
6 They have been utilizing this question as being a trap, in order to possess a foundation for accusing him. But Jesus bent
lower and started to write on the ground with his finger.
7 When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and mentioned to them, “If any 1 of you is without having
sin, let him be the initially to throw a stone at her.”
eight Once again he stooped lower and wrote on the ground.
9 At this, those that heard started to go absent 1 at a time, the older ones initially, till only Jesus was left,
with all the girl nonetheless standing there.
ten Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, in which are they? Has no 1 condemned you?”
11 “No 1, sir,” she mentioned. “Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and depart your existence
of sin.”
sins of the flesh – lust, greed, gluttony, drunkenness, slothfulness…etc.
vs.
sins of the spirit – delight, arrogance, self-righteousness, cynicism, negativity, judgmentalism…etc.
Jesus is targeted on sins of the spirit, whilst we’re frequently pre-occupied with sins of the flesh.
“What is so insidious about the sins of the spirit is that the carriers do not possess a clue. At least
with sins of the flesh, you locate out you have messed up. With all the sins of the spirit, you may well not
even know. You just stroll by means of existence with a stone with your hand: judgmental thoughts, a superior
perspective, impatient words, bitter resentments, little space for enjoy. Men and women stand around you –
trembling in brokenness, guilt, concern, lostness – but you are so caught up with your very own selfrighteousness
you do not even see them. Or worse however, you see them and are not moved.”
– John Ortberg
condemn = katakrino (kat-ak-ree’-no)= to judge against, to area sentence upon
The concern is not whether or not the sin required to become dealt with, the concern was the way in which in which it can be
handled.
The way in which of the Pharisees came from the area of condemnation
— you have been sleeping with a guy who is not your husband, Leviticus 20:ten, foul, prepare to die
vs.
The way in which of Jesus came from the area of grace
— centered upon this gift of mercy and enjoy that you have just acquired, go now and reside in a different way.
Both ways deal with all the sin, 1 does it from the area of condemnation, one other from the area of grace.
— 1 brings death, one other a new existence.

Jesus goes past toleration to acceptance.
“We do not need to – we cannot – surrender the valid practice of distinguishing and discerning
how things are in order to steer clear of condemning others. We can, however, train ourselves to hold
men and women accountable and talk about their failures with them – and even assign them penalties, if we
are, for example, in some position through them – without having attacking their worth as human beings or
marking them as rejects.” – Dallas Willard
Neither do I condemn you – there is the acceptance
Go now and depart your existence of sin – there is the call to transform, to a greater existence, a holy existence
Envision being recognized as being a individual who will never choose up a stone…
Envision being recognized as being a community of men and women who place lower their stones…
Envision the lives that can be impacted and the wonderful glory God would receive…
